Colter Boehm and his family landed in Juneau in 2005 as a remote mechanical services outfit. Colter knew there was a need to provide quality service and equipment to the people of SouthEast, Alaska, and help build the community’s economic growth. In 2007, Colter and his father, Jeff, purchased 6 acres in the Lemon Creek area, which became the home to “Bobcat of Juneau.” Colter Boehm’s vision to open an equipment yard business in Juneau at 19 years old came to fruition in 2008; there was no hesitation that it had to be a Bobcat facility, given Colter’s background working at a Bobcat dealership in his college years. Living only a hundred miles from the factory where all Bobcats were being built in North Dakota, Colter knew the Bobcat brand would be the ultimate success in Southeast Alaska.
When we started the company in 2008, we had one mini excavator, a little backhoe, and one skid-steer — that was it. Colter’s father, Jeff, recalled what his son was like as a young boy. I’d be working on a project on the ranch and find myself asking where all my tools are. The hammers were all gone, some of the wrenches were gone, and I would discover Colter had all my tools stretched out all over the place, working on various projects along the ranch. Having that freedom, growing up on a ranch in North Dakota, and being a part of a tight-knit family from the Midwest gave Colter the building blocks for his work ethic and ability to grow the company into the number one Bobcat dealership in Alaska. Since the opening of the first store, we have expanded our operations and opened a second location in Ketchikan, Alaska to service more of the Southeast regions of Alaska.
For over half a decade, Colter and Jeff have ensured they have provided the best customer service and equipment to the great people of Southeast Alaska while never forgetting their core values. At Bobcat of Juneau & Bobcat of Ketchikan, we are helping our fellow Alaskans to keep this great state growing that we call home.
